International women’s day

The 8th March is The International Woman’s Day so  IEEE WIE ENIM Student Affinity Group take the initiative to make it different ,to showcase the real problems of women in our society, to discover our women lives in the old generation , to have the chance and the reason to compare the old and the new generation , to recognize women’s achievements and to encourage gender parity.

In order to celebrate the International Woman’s Day , IEEE WIE ENIM Student Affinity Group has done firstly  a stand at national engineering school of Monastir to showcase for all students  the importance and the history of this great day. The celebration was with IEEE members and  non IEEE members. Also to have  the chance to pursue that women in engineering can support all the women, defend their rights and to recognize the power beyond every woman in our society  as an Arabic society.

Secondly, IEEE   WIE ENIM Student Affinity Group visited  “Generations’ club”  in  Monastir  which is dedicated to retired women. It was a very interesting opportunity to meet them and to discuss the main problems in our society  especially  in the sixties and the Fifties like the gender inequality that made the integration of the working women more difficult. In fact, each woman talked about her real problems as a little girl . We heard about racism, inequality and so much more. The common thing that bothered all of us is that the woman wasn’t allowed to finish her studies but to get married. Or she can easily drop out just because the college or school is in another town or way too far from home. Although these problems, there are women that arrached a lot of opportunities during their adulthood and got interesting positions. In addition to that, they succeeded at being a mother and a working woman .

Finally, we can only say that a woman is a real power.  Yet, she fights and go through struggles everyday just to prove that she’s not powerful, she’s “power” itself. So for that, 8 March isn’t the International Woman’s Day, everyday is Woman’s day.

Yes She Evolves!

IEEE WIE ENIM Student Affinity Group organized  an event in its first edition under the name of ” Yes she evolves!” and it  took  place in 11 April at the national engineering school of Monastir .
This event was  about the development of women over the years, how they succeed to manage career and household , how they could integrate in industrial or commercial or professional activities and how there is a lot of inspirational Arab Women making a difference in the world.
In the Arab world, as in all the others regions, women have been put down since the dawn of time. However, where there is oppression, there is resistance. Thus, there have been a huge number of women who push the envelope and refuse to stay in the small spaces allocated to them. These women push further and rise higher than what is expected from them, or anyone else for that matter.
This event was dedicated especially for the women in engineering, which we  discussed the problems they face like the lack of soft skills, that’s why conferences were held and were  animated by speakers in order to help them to integrate in the professional life , to learn more about how to start  an online business without capital and to be a powerful concurrent for men, we  tried  to discover the potential of engineering students by organizing  workshops about digital marketing and how to become a ‘startuper’.

our speakers were Ms Chema GARGOURI and Mr Oussema OUERTANI, in fact Ms Chema  is the CEO of the Center for Applied Training .In 2006, Chéma founded the “Tunisian Association for Management and Social Stability” (TAMSS) and the President of TAMSS. Chéma is a 2009 Summer Fellow of the Center on Democracy Development and Rule of Law at Stanford University, and a graduate of the Executive Management certificate program at Georgetown University.Since 2011 Chéma has been acting Country Director for the Institute of International Education in San Francisco, which work in Tunisia has been focusing on lifting up women leadership and entrepreneurship through the installment of 13 women business development centers in 11 regions in Tunisia. She is often invited as a guest speaker in several international conferences and meetings. In 2014, she was conferred the “Outstanding Women Leadership Achievement Award” by the World Women Leadership Congress & Award (WWLCA).

Mr Oussema  is 24 years old. He studied software engineering at ENIcarthage. He was a Local president at Tunisian Association of Engineering Studies in 2014. He was awarded by the minister of communication technology of Tunisia for an android application in 2015. From 2014 to 2016, he was the general director of professional worldwide  engineering (startup project). He was an IEEE member .Now he is a trainer of trainers at Canadian Center for Human Development and he is a Prog-Neuro-linguistic trainer. Coffee Talk

National Women’s Day is celebrated in Tunisia every year on August 13. It commemorates the day of adoption of the    code of personal status in Tunisia, the 13th of August in 1956, the year of independence in Tunisia . The code enacted laws for the family that contain fundamental changes, the most important of which is the prohibition of  polygamy , the withdrawal of guardianship from men and the making of divorce by the court instead of men.Sixty  two years ago, after gaining independence from France, Each year on August 13th, Tunisians celebrate National Women’s Day. For many, it’s a day to acknowledge what they have achieved for women’s rights, while recognizing and continuing to fight the many challenges that still exist against gender equality. That’s why IEEE WIE ENIM SAG and IEEE WIE ENISO SAG  co-organized a Coffee Talk  in order to discuss and share WIE members’experiences as women in the engineering field .

Because STEM should be a part of everyone’s life. Human evolution and advancements have always been dependent on STEM and because women are always seeking for changing the world to make it a better place and in order to celebrate the global entrepreneurship week 2018 , IEEE WIE ENIM SAG organized an event under the name of “WIE CHANGE THE WORLD ” , in partnership with She starts on the 28th of November at the national engineering school of Monastir .
This event was about how to empower women through entrepreneurship to build their engineering projects by holding conferences, success stories and workshops to show what women in STEM can learn from female entrepreneurs, to understand the characteristics of entrepreneur and show our future engineers the Woman’s Path from Engineer to Entrepreneur.
The journey began with our speaker Mrs Selmine Sassi Salmine and her intervention about ” African female entrepreneurs”, in fact, Mrs Selmine is a social entrepreneur and a business mentor. She has acquired an entrepreneurial mindset when she went on her first internship abroad. Working with Syrian refugees in Lebanon, to try to better their lives and solve some of the issues they are facing. She immersed herself in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tunisia, competed on a regional and international level in startup competitions, and spent one year at an incubator for social entrepreneurs in the United States. These experiences armed her with skills, confidence, and resistance to failure, so that she can launch She StartsAfrica along with her co-founders Salma and Safa.
Our second intervention was with Mrs Rim Bouazra about ” Funding for projects “, Mrs Rim studied accounting in IHEC Carthage .She studies Banking Technology in ITB Paris in 2005/2006. She had training for trainers courses at STB .In 2000, she was in charge of the study of investment loan files of all sectors (industrial, services, agricultural,Tourism) in the Economic DevelopmentBank of Tunisia. She was the AFRICA branch manager in STB for three years and in Sousse Republic for two years and in STB Akouda since two years.Since 2016, she has become the head of Agency STB Akouda and internal trainer within the bank and the teaching Assistant and Assistant Business Accountant at IMSET university.Mrs Rim was very generous , she gave us suggestion for internships to share it with our colleagues in the engineering school.
Our third speaker was Mrs Samar Tekaya , she told us about her success story and how she face the difficulties to achieve her dream . Mrs Samar had her computer science bachelor diploma in 2014. Then, she studied in ISET Sousse and has recently got a Licence in multimidia and web development. she developed a mobile application for PROXYM-IT. She worked with MOBISOFT to make an e-commerce website in 2016. Samar is a successful youtuber and in 2017 she won the title of the first arab youtuber in programming .In addition to that , Samar is well known for being the founder and the CEO of SamCoding where she teaches senior how to use modern technologies.
Then , we close the conferences by the success story of Mrs Omayma Farhat .She was graduated as textile engineer from ENIM in 2014. She participated in Competency fellowship program 2018 fellow. She is active in civil society and She is the co-founder of 5E for learning technologies.
In the end of the day , we held two workshops about personal branding with Mrs Selmine Sassi and communication with Mrs Safa Triki . In fact, She is a Second Year Masters student specialized in English linguistics (TESOL) at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanitiesof Tunisia. She is also The Vice President of Marketing and communications at She Starts Africa.During her university years, she has been an ambassador and a Community Manager at the 4C FSHST, a center that promotes leadership skills among students, Chief Content Officer at the Tunisian Entrepreneurship & Spin-Off Association (ATUPEE) and then, she took up the position of Communication manager at the Work Zone co-working space.
The impression that we get about the event were very positive which made us proud with our efforts and determinated to achieve more by working .
